Greed, what does the word mean? Greed can basically be defined as a sense of selfishness and an overall concern for oneself and wealth beyond anyone or anything else in the world. Recent court rulings in the United States now say that corporations are to be treated the same as individuals, thereby giving many corporations even more power than they had before. In having such powers, the corporations can now also donate unlimited amounts of money to a variety of political campaigns, which essentially then makes it possible to buy an election. In addition, while this is going on, at the same time the United States is also attempting to pass a health care bill, which keeps getting sidetracked due to private insurance industry concerns.

However, one area hardest hit by corporate greed, is in relation to a number of employees across the board, both those just starting work today, as well as those who are retiring after many years on the job. This is because the corporation profits greatly from such thought-out planning. Such plans often include getting rid old employees with experience and replacing them with individuals in a learning phase, that way the corporation can start new employees at lower wages and not have to extend retirement benefits to retiring employees. Talk about a gold mine of opportunity for greed, sadly the marketplace is full of these type of corporations who continue to lay off long time workers in exchange for those without experience or knowledge, which in turn not only profits the company, but can also effect consumers depending on what type of product a corporation manufactures.

 

Therefore, unless individuals agree to salary or hourly wages at the time one is hired, many of these practices often go unknown to anyone other than the corporation itself and any retiring employees or employees who have not been satisfied with regards to pay for overtime work. Otherwise, individuals just keep churning away, working tirelessly for an employer until a time one becomes a threat against corporate profits, at which time the employee is often let go, many times without any warning or severance package. Sadly, there is not much an individual can do in such cases, as the company generally provides some reason, often which can not be fought in court, for the layoff or termination of such an employee.

 

While there are both large corporations and small corporations, many attempt to hid behind corporate greed. One such incident is with regards to an employee of a corporation who died, after which the family discovered a health insurance policy had been purchased on the life of their loved one without the knowledge of the employee of anyone in the family. Of course, the corporation is listed as sole beneficiary and therefore, the family received none of the over one million dollars the corporation received in death benefits, on one employee alone, think how much that would be if all employees are covered under such life insurance plans.

 

Also, while a good number of corporate firms use these poor business practices, there are also those who have great management teams who understand the importance of good, long-time employees and do everything in their power to protect same. However, it is the corporations who tend to pay low wages, lay off workers and misuse employees for their own use who cause the bulk of such problems. Therefore, the current trend in greening the planet along with a variety of new jobs in the area can often be a good place to look for both employment and investment opportunities. This is because these corporations generally have some sense of conscience, or they would not be working in the area of environmental improvement, unlike those who only use individuals as pawns with one goal and one goal only, to reveal large profit margins for the company. Of course, when a company profits, it benefits its executives through a variety of bonuses and other benefits. Often at the expense of many people who have been hired and fired within the last few years, as an effort to see such a result.

There were three wise men in the Christmas story, and three days in the resurrection of the Messiah. There is the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
The atom is made up of molecules with protons, neutrons and electrons. The apple, like most fruit, has the peeling, meat and seed. We learn from the three R’s: reading, writing and arithmetic. Three is unique in numerology. In geometry there is the three-dimensional space: length, width and depth (height). In music it represents a trio, and in the most basic cord there are three notes in a triad. In geography there are a number of cities known as Tripoli, the Greek term describing three cities. In sports, three strikes and you’re out! In literature three interconnected books or artwork is called a trilogy. Remember those three unalienable rights endowed to us by out Creator disclosed in the Declaration of Independence by our Forefathers? They are: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
